We are all aware of the environmental damage caused by some of our behavior and consumption habits. But changing routines is often difficult, even for us. Sustainable behavioral changes are most effective when many people participate. We want to support that!
We have a heart for cyclists. In Bremerhaven, all guests who arrive by bike receive an organic energy bar as a welcome gift. Air pumps and repair kits are always available, and we offer secure parking for bicycles.
Rental bicycles are available in Bremerhaven, Lauterbach and Gustow, and you can get green electricity for your electric car at our charging stations.
Together for a clean port.
During the regular harbor clean-up, employees, guests, and dedicated partners come together to rid the harbor and its waterfront areas of litter. Every item collected contributes to protecting our waterways and maintaining the quality of life in the harbor. At the same time, the initiative raises awareness of the importance of treating our environment with care – because what doesn't end up in the water in the first place doesn't need to be painstakingly removed later.
A throw-in for a clean environment.
With the Clean Cubes, we're creating a simple way to dispose of cigarette butts where they're produced. These innovative ashtrays are integrated directly into the paving of the New Harbor and help keep cigarette butts out of our waterways. The Clean Cubes are financed by the proceeds from recycling collected bottle caps and twist-off lids. In this way, many small contributions combine to form a joint project for a clean harbor and responsible environmental stewardship.
Clean waters start small.
With the Seabin, we are actively working to remove floating debris from the harbor basin before it reaches rivers or the North Sea. Plastics, cigarette butts, and other marine litter are continuously collected from the water. The Seabin demonstrates how important prevention and collective action are for protecting our marine habitats.
Recyclable materials become environmental protection.
Bottle caps, twist-off lids, and other metal parts are far too valuable to end up in the regular trash. That's why we collect them together with guests, employees, and partners and send them for recycling. The proceeds go directly to our environmental projects – for example, to financing new clean cubes for the New Harbor. In this way, many small contributions result in concrete measures for greater cleanliness, resource conservation, and the protection of our waterways.
The water holiday world has been awarded the title of "Nature Destination" because you can travel here particularly conveniently by train. The small train station in the immediate vicinity is only 300 meters away.
In our displays on entomology we present the most common neighbours from the insect world and inform about their significance.
At a time when the extinction of insects is a major challenge, we consciously refrain from using pesticides. We are proud that nature on Rügen is still intact in many ways. It is our responsibility to protect and preserve biodiversity. Insects are an essential part of this diversity, and we make a positive contribution through green facades, green roofs, flowering perennials and much more. This also includes offering swallows and other birds nesting opportunities and allowing spiders to weave their webs on our balcony railings.
Our beekeeper Andreas Bredehorn from “Seestadt-Honig Bremerhaven” explains beekeeping to our trainee Maria. You can buy what the bees naturally store here as their supplies at our reception and take them home with you.
